What is a Step?

Unleesh is a mobile-first platform designed to get members of a team on the same page. Using Unleesh, team managers can create structure, direction and accountability in seconds by having their teams on Paths.

 

As detailed in a previous blog post, a Path is a company-branded team space that delivers content and allows team members to engage with managers and each other.

 

Steps are the smallest and, most important, unit of Paths in Unleesh. Steps deliver manageable pieces of information and ask team members to engage with the information by sharing feedback in various ways depending on the input desired from the manager.

 

When creating Steps, a manager simply needs to answer two questions:

  • What do I want my team to know?

  • What do I want team members to do with the information they were just given?

Steps create structure by placing information in an organized Path that is defined by a team manager and requires actions from team members. This ensures that important information is:

  • never lost in a heap of emails

  • always delivered the same way to the entire team

  • acted upon by all team members

Managers can be sure all team members receive the same direction and can address any questions or feedback provided by team members. Steps create transparency and clarity that aligns the team and gets everyone on the same page.

 

Types of Steps:

 

Here are some examples of the ways we have seen customers use Steps so far:

  • Announcements: Steps can be used to get information out to all team members quickly, allowing instant feedback and acknowledgment that the team members have seen the information.

  • Policies: Each Step can be a different company policy, or small detail of a policy, that managers need team members to understand and engage with.

  • Action Items: At their most basic, Steps are simply used to give specific directions on how to do something “one Step at a time.”

  • Calendar Items: For clients who use Unleesh for training conferences we have seen great success in creating Steps for each session in the conference.

  • Introductions: Steps can be used to introduce philosophies, people, or places to team members.

  • Training: Steps can be used to demonstrate training items and record real life examples of how the training is applied.

Managers can deliver information in Steps through multiple ways including text, video, photos, PDFs and links. Managers can ask team members to Take Action on the information shared including asking for video, audio, photos or text. Managers can also customize their Action requests with features such as confirmation buttons and text forms.

 

We will dive deeper into Action types in my next blog post. Today, we will focus on ways Steps can help you deliver your information.

 

Text

 

Using Unleesh, managers can instantly deliver an announcement, new policy, new initiative or any other information to all team members on through their secure Path. Unleesh allows managers to quit competing with email or juggling schedules to set up a conference call. By using the manager's tool, information appears in the Path and on every team member’s mobile device within seconds.

 

Video

 

Managers can include a video in each Step as either a supplement to the information they want to share or as the main source of the information. Videos can be either uploaded from other sources or be a video recorded directly from the manager themselves. Each video lives independently in the Steps. One of the cooler uses of Unleesh is allowing team members to respond to Steps with a video reaction of their own.

 

PDFs

 

Managers who want to deliver a large amount of information to all of their team members can attach PDFs to Steps, which are then accessible to all team members from their mobile devices. We have seen clients use this feature in multiple ways including hosting company handbooks, sharing presentations and archiving articles.

 

Other Stuff

 

While the way Steps are delivered creates instant structure for team members, Step management is intentionally flexible to allow managers to deliver information in the way they see fit. Steps can also include hyperlinks, charts and photos.

 

In truth, the possibilities of how to utilize Steps for a team are limitless and only managers know what suits their teams best. Here at Unleesh we are excited how teams will take Steps and run with them.
